These records are created/maintained to provide a resource library of topics related to classroom studies for use by Alabama schools and educational institutions and to provide training materials for Dept. of Education and school system employees. The Learning Resources Center also videotapes local conferences and meetings at the request of state agencies. This series contains information on African-American history and on Governor James E. Folsom, Sr. (1947-1951 and 1955-1959). The tapes also provide general information on Ala.

James E. Folsom was born 1908 Oct. 9 to Joshua Marion and Eulala Cornelia Dunnavant Folsom in Farmer's Academy, Coffee County, Ala. When he was two the Folsom family moved to Elba. James E. was the sixth of seven children. Folsom attended public schools and attended both the University of Ala. and Howard College for short stints in the years 1927-1929.
